Written by: Andrés Rodríguez Reynoso
Last November 4th we carried out the 2nd cup test in order to select the ideal cup for tequila.

This event gathered a group of celebrities from the Austrian city of Kufstein, place where the factory of Mr. Georg Riedel is located. He is also known as the King of Crystal. Mr. Riedel organized the first test in Mexico, performed in the Tequila Museum, located in Tequila, Jalisco.

For the 2nd tasting he invited representative professionals from the most important Tequila Houses to evaluate 12 cups designed by skilled artists and define the ideal cup for the tasting of tequila.

The act was watched by the Governor of the State of Jalisco, Mr. Francisco Ramírez Acuña, who interrupted his business tour in several nations in Europe to attend to this important event.

The tasting was performed in four rounds, eliminating 9 cups in the first 3 rounds. In the fourth round the winner was choose by the experts. According to them this particular cup turned out to place the best conditions to appreciate the extraordinary qualities of our National drink.

The Aged tequilas 100% of agave used in the 4 rounds were Arette, Don Julio, La Cofradía y Gran Centenario.

The winner cup has a thin body, slightly wider in the midde and closed in the top. The shaft if fine and long, the stand has a good diameter to give the cup stability and of course it's made of glass. According to the comments of the experts, this cup highlighted the fine and complex scents of the tequila and also felt smooth to the mouth.

The group received a fine attention from Mr. Georg Riedel himself and his assistants in Kufstein. In Munich, where the 1st reunion was placed, the hospitality was on charge of Mrs. Deby Beard, public relations manager and Mr. Marc Giard, Commercial Director of the company that represents Riedel cups in Mexico. They gave the group a 1st class attention.

Our founder member the enology engineer Francisco Hajnal was among the experts who represented Jose Cuervo.
